Suspects in Bell Buckle Moon Pie Festival Incident Involving Runner Hit by Motorcyclist Arrested

BELL BUCKLE, TN – Arrests have been made after a motorcyclist hit an elderly runner who was participating in Bell Buckle's annual Moon Pie Festival on June 17, 2023. Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.

30-Year-old Micheal Lee Grimmett of Christiana, TN was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 and charged with Felony Evading Arrest and Reckless Endangerment. 

31-Year-old James Nicholas Barrett of Cannon County was taken into custody on Thursday, June 22, 2023 and charged with Aggravated Assault, Felony Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury, Reckless Driving, and Improper Registration.Barrett was arrested Thursday just before 2PM and made bond around 7-hours later. He was released at 8:32, Thursday night. 

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office thanked the Rutherford County and the Cannon County Sheriff’s Offices for their assistance in the case. Officials with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office further stated, “We would also like to thank the public for all information and assistance that helped lead to the identification and apprehension of these two individuals.”
