MURFREESBORO, TN - A long-time leader at the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross in Murfreesboro has passed away. Madeline Methvin was an assistant director for 7-years and was part of the Red Cross as a volunteer in Rutherford County on the morning of 9-11. As many realize, the massive attack on U.S. soil in New York required extensive work from Red Cross Chapters across the United States, Methvin was one of many who volunteered to help.
With more on Methvin’s life, here’s WGNS’ Steve Thornton…
76-Year-old Methvin was a vital member to the local community for years. She, along with several other notable names in Rutherford County history, spoke before the Murfreesboro Board of Zoning Appeals in May of 2001 in favor of WGNS Radio building a brand-new tower. One month prior to WGNS requesting permission to construct a new tower, a series of straight-line winds toppled the older tower that was built in 1946. Thanks to Methvin’s kind words and the work of others in our community, WGNS received the greenlight to rebuild our 328-foot self-supported tower. The new tower, built much stronger than the original tower in 1946, still stands today.
Services for Madeline Methvin are in the care of the Smith Family Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated on July 29, 2023 from 12 noon until 3 at the St. Clair Senior Center located at 325 St.Clair Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
