According to the Sheriff's Office, the unknown man stole a purse from a vehicle and later attempted to use the victim's debit card. Detective David Ashburn said the card was used at a grocery store, but the transaction was declined. At the store, the man reportedly tried to buy gift cards. Two more transactions were also attempted in which the subject tried to make very large purchases - - of again, gift cards. Both of those transactions were also declined, according to the Sheriff's Office.

In recent weeks, the Sheriff’s Office has received calls about a rash of car burglaries at boat ramps, the battlefield and other places where burglars stole purses and guns from both locked and unlocked vehicles. “Be mindful of leaving valuables in your car,” Ashburn said. “Even if it’s locked, criminals will damage your property and steal your items.”

The RCSO said in a social media release, “Detectives depend on community residents to help identify suspects.” If you have information about the man’s identity, please call Detective Ashburn at 615-904-3038 or email him at dashburn@rcsotn.org.
