Murfreesboro City Manager Craig Tindall

Focus on Murfreesboro with City Manager Craig Tindall

  • Public Housing is controlled by Murfreesboro Housing Authority (415 N. Maple St.; Thomas Rowe is Secretary/Treasurer). Section 8 waiting list dealing with "Voucher Rental Assistance" opens July 17-23, 2023. Beautiful new homes in Oaklands Park area behind Historic Oaklands Mansion. Tindall said MHA is about to start another subdivision in area off Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.
  • Concerns with community (safety shootings, shopliftings, thefts and robberies). Tindall talks about a need to get MTSU more involved in on-campus housing, saying "It would be safer and improve student involvement for athletic events and other on-campus activities." He noted they tried to get apartment owners to improve the safety of units, but did not get as involved as had been hoped.
  • NOISE CONTROL: Tindall stresses this includes both bass notes as well as loud vehicle engines.
  • Widen Medical Center Parkway. Tindall says this is a "city road" and was built to be widened as needed. He suggested motorists to look at how far back from roadway the arms that hold traffic signals are located. That gives an idea of the roadway.
  • Tindall noted that some of the increased construction prices appear to be going down slightly.
  • Interstate 840 connector road from soccer park on Cherry Lane to the interstate is moving forward.
  • Middle Point Landfill: Landfill is close to being full, much will be based on whethr Republic Services continues to operate the landfill (BFI) or allows another firm to operate there until the landfill is full and is closed.
  • PUBLIC PARKING DOWNTOWN: The city previously had two (2) public parking areas downtown, but both are now closed. One was on the old Methodist Church property alongside of N. Spring St. and the other was the city's lot on S. Church at Sevier Streets. Tindall noted that downtown projects are on the agenda of the City Council's workshop at Murfreesboro Airport this Thursday (7/13/2023). When asked if there was still a developer for the square block of land on College Street (old Methodist Church property), he noted, "We're discussing with developer or whether to make changes there." Re: the Broad Street Development, the city and developer are both very excited about getting started. It will be back to the City Council in 3-4 weeks as it moves closer to the next phase. Daylighting Town Creek as well as work on Cannonsburgh and other improvements around the area are underway.
