Suspect Arrested for Alleged Threats of Mass Violence Against a Murfreesboro School

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A man from Hendersonville, Tennessee has been arrested and charged with threats of mass violence after allegedly making a threat to “shoot up” an unnamed school, according to Murfreesboro Police Public Information Officer Larry Flowers. Reports indicate the suspect made the threat to his co-workers at a Murfreesboro business earlier this week. 

23-Year-old Landon Brassfield was arrested by Hendersonville Police on Thursday, July 27 after receiving a request from detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department to go to his home and speak with him about the reported threats. Officers say they found a 9mm handgun in his vehicle. According to information surrounding the investigation, Brassfield purchased the gun two days before he was accused of making threats to employees at Rooms To Go on Medical Center Parkway.

Detectives from the Murfreesboro Police Criminal Investigations Division went to Hendersonville and served Brassfield with a warrant, charging him with threats of mass violence.  Brassfield was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on the New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro at 2 o'clock Friday morning.

Brassfield is being held in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center without bond.  A hearing is set to take place in General Sessions Court on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 8 a.m.

Coincidently, Murfreesboro Police trained for a variety of scenarios involving an active school shooter throughout the week, this week at Overall Creek Elementary School. MPD, Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue, multiple local agencies, along with Murfreesboro City Schools conducted the training exercises involving active aggressors at Overall Creek Elementary School (Scroll down for a photo from the training that was conducted this week in Murfreesboro).
