(CADIZ, KY) A Murfreesboro man has been charged with multiple offenses after allegedly driving in the wrong direction on I-24 at the westbound 60-mile marker in Trigg County, Kentucky.
Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies say that around 1:00AM Friday morning (7/28/2023) 39-year-old Dustin Smith of Murfreesboro allegedly drove approximately 10-miles in the wrong direction on I-24 westbound and crashed into a tractor-trailer rig at westbound 60 mile marker.
The 18-wheeler then went off the roadway and slammed into the cable barriers before coming to a stop.
Both drivers, Smith and Russell Thompson, along with a passenger in the big rig—Ernest Reid, were rushed to the ER at the Tigg County Hospital. They were treated and released.
The Murfreesboro resident was charged with DUI, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle, and second-degree possession of a controlled substance.
