RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Last week, WGNS told you about a Murfreesboro resident who won $50,000 in the Tennessee Lottery’s Mega Millions game. The ticket purchased by the Rutherford County lottery player was extremely close to winning a billion dollars. According to lottery officials, the ticket matched four numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. In case you’re curious, that ticket was purchased at the Kroger on Lascassas Pike.

The Mega Millions ticket cost $2 per play. Players pick six numbers from two different pools of numbers. Drawings for the Mega Millions occur every Tuesday and Friday night. Currently, the Mega Millions game is holding one of the largest jackpots in lottery history. Today (Tuesday), the Mega Millions Jackpot is at $1.55-billion dollars.

If someone wins the $1.55 billion, they can walk away with a lump sum of $757.2-million after taxes. If they choose to receive monthly payments over the next 30-years, the winner can essentially receive around $1-billion after taxes.  The payments would come out of an annuity and the winner would get about $30-million annually or $2.5-million monthly.
