MURFREESBORO, TN - The Murfreesboro Police Department reports a social media post that describes the attempted kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman is unfounded. The post also suggested that two men were caught after the attempted abduction. However, there have been no such reports filed locally.

Murfreesboro authorities said the fearmongering post in question read, “Watch your babies ladies! My 20-year-old daughter was almost kidnapped yesterday by males in their mid-30’s while she was taking trash out at her workplace, close to Sam’s Club in Murfreesboro.”

Evidently, the social media post that looks to be geared towards scaring people, has little credibility. MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers told WGNS in an email, “If this were true, the police department would have already notified the public.”

The false post that was created by unknown persons further said, “The one who grabbed her is being charged with assault and attempted kidnapping (since they found zip ties and duct tape in his van). The other one who punched her in her side was released today and can only be charged with assault since the van (where the zip ties and duct tape were found) is not registered to him.”

Again, there are no such reports locally of any kidnapping or attempted kidnapping. The MPD is asking the community for help in finding the person or persons behind the social media post that has since gone viral, according to the police department.

Flowers commented, “The safety and security of our residents are always of the utmost importance.”
