LAVERGNE, TN - Late last month, the search for the next Chief of Police in LaVergne was narrowed down to five candidates. Those candidates included Chief of Police Michael Bell of Coweta, OK, Chief of Police Thomas Herion of Lyons, IL, Director David Imhoff of Nashville, TN, Captain Christopher Moews (pron: Mays) of Milwaukee, WI and Captain William Nas of Casselberry, FL. That search has now ended.

LaVergne has announced the new Chief of Police is Captain Christopher Moews of Milwaukee, WI. Pending a few preliminary exams, Mowes will start the position in September.

Captain Moews was born and raised in the Milwaukee area and is a 1990 graduate of Marquette University High School. He attended the Saint Francis Seminary College to discern a vocation to the Catholic Priesthood.  After two years, he left the seminary to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a career in law enforcement.  In 1995, Captain Moews graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

The new hire comes after a year of struggle for LaVergne. You may recall the previous chief was fired after only 2-years on the job. Under former Chief Burrel "Chip" Davis, a sex scandal unfolded that involved multiple officers. According to documents from the City of LaVergne, the Director of Human Resources fully investigated multiple accusations of a female officer having sexual in nature relations with other patrol officers, a detective and two sergeants. That scandal led to the termination of 4-officers and 1-detective.
