CANNON COUNTY, TENN – Over this past weekend in Auburntown, a man who was wanted by the Cannon County Sheriff's Office managed to escape custody for a short time, but was captured in less than 24-hours. The subject was arrested after an extensive manhunt that included help from a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter.
32-Year-old Dustin Pate was wanted in a theft case this past Friday and was pulled over on Carter Creek Road. Once stopped, deputies say he took off on foot. Evidently, Pate was driving a stolen vehicle when stopped by Cannon County Deputies. Authorities quickly warned nearby citizens in a reverse 9-1-1 call, that phoned area citizens. The message to residents was that the suspect was considered to be armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. The Sheriff's Department said the suspect, “...has made threats against law enforcement, and had active felony warrants before this situation began.”
After he was caught on Saturday morning, he was charged with two counts of evading arrest. Pate was also charged with theft over $10,000 for the stolen vehicle he was reportedly driving on Friday. The theft suspect was booked into the Cannon County Jail under an $800-thousand bond. A hearing date has been set for October 25, 2023 at 9 AM.
