UPDATE: 5-Vehicle Fiery Saturday Night Crash

(MURFREESBORO, TN) Here's an update on that fiery five-vehicle accident that occurred around 7:15PM Saturday (10/28/203) night at the intersection of Lascassas Pike and Rutherford Boulevard near the Kroger store.

Murfreesboro Police Department's Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) investigators are trying to determine if speeding may have contributed to the wreck in which one of the cars burst into flames, trapping the driver inside.

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department firefighters quickly put out the blaze and rescued the 24-year-old male driver.  Authorities say he was severely injured and was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by a LifeFlight helicopter.  He’s listed in critical condition.

Another driver was taken to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville by Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services personnel and that driver is listed as being in stable condition.  A third driver was taken to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital with minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows, the driver of a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck a was traveling in the left eastbound lane of E. Northfield Boulevard approaching the traffic light at Lascassas Pike at N. Rutherford Boulevard when it slammed into the back of a car, causing a chain reaction pileup.  The fiery crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Charges will be pending based on the outcome of the investigation. The investigation continues and NewsRadio WGNS will keep you informed.
