UPDATED - MURFREESBORO, TN - Two Northbound lanes of S. Church Street from Veterans Pkwy to the Innsebrooke Kroger store had to be closed because of an injury accident. In the wreck, a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole at 2:01 PM. Middle Tennessee Electric workers arrived on the scene and worked hard to put the electric lines back in place, after the truck slammed into one of the poles. Crews had to close the roadway to traffic from around 2 PM to almost 7 PM.

One reason that traffic in both directions had to be shut down was for utility crews to re-hang electrical lines across the street. Police asked drivers to find an alternate route.

UPDATED: As for the driver who was behind the wheel when the wreck occurred, he was not seriously injured. The airbag seemed to have really played a role in keeping that driver safe as he was reported to have only minor injuries. Police told WGNS he was transported to the hospital as a precaution and later released. The utility pole received the brunt of the hit and while it is still standing, it is badly bent where the truck hit the pole on Monday afternoon.

1-minute before 7 PM, WGNS received word that South Church Street had fully reopened. Public Information Officer Larry Flowers told us, "Electric workers patched the downed lines but will replace the damaged pole at a later time."
