Murfreesboro Police Spokesperson Larry Flowers shared the preliminary report...

The deceased male is 44-years-old and is a resident of Murfreesboro. WGNS is not releasing the man's name until we are certain family members have been notified.

Two Armed Robbery Attempts  - The first armed robbery attempt began at a free-standing ATM that is on the roadway that goes through the Oaks Shopping Center and connects Medical Center Parkway with Robert Rose Drive.

A Loomis Security employee was servicing that ATM machine when the suspect approached him and reportedly attempted the first robbery. The Loomis agent produced a weapon and the male fled. He ran approximately 300 feet, across the parking lot, to Jason's Deli. The six employees inside the restaurant quickly fled when they realized what was happening. There were no customers since this happened before Jason's opened for business.

Like we said, police arrived almost instantly. In fact, officers entered Jason's not long after the suspect. By that time police were all over the parking lot, and at the ATM machine 300-feet away.

Flowers then told WGNS what happened...

Since a Murfreesboro police officer was involved in the shooting, District Attorney General Jennings Jones has asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to handle the case and TBI agents were on-the-scene quickly collecting evidence and interrogating witnesses.

Jason's Deli has not re-opened since it was the second attempted robbery location and is considered a "crime scene". It will reopen when the TBI completes its interrogations and collectuing evidence within the restaurant.

Again, after two unsuccessful attempted robberies within 300-feet of each other on Wednesday morning, Murfreesboro police officers quickly surrounded the active acrime scene and ordered the suspect to surrender and show his hands". He did not and was shot several times. The 44-year-old Murfreesboro male was rushed to the ER at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital where he died.
