RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – While the COVID Pandemic has all but vanished from the rear-view mirror, communities across the country continue to examine the aftermath of changes that occurred during the widespread illness... That was Rutherford County School Board member Caleb Tidwell from Zone 3.
Changes in student behavior continued to grow, as COVID numbers continued to drop. The rise in negative student behavior led to an increase of “Behavioral Interventionist...”
During a recent school board retreat, officials were able to gain insight into corrective behavior patterns within the schools that added behavioral interventionist... Tidwell said interventionist are able to focus solely on behavioral problems, thus allowing teachers to continue teaching... And when a student needs to be removed from the classroom altogether... So far, teachers and principals have given positive feedback on changes made by “Behavioral Interventionist.”
In closing, Tidwell said that behavior problems within the Rutherford County Schools often deal with emotional or mental health issues, as opposed to students physically fighting. However, he believes it's important to give administrators the ability to send students to alternative schools when needed, but the county needs to have enough alternative classroom space...
