(Davidson-Sumner-Montgomery Counties) Rutherford County and much of Middle Tennessee was under a TORNADO WATCH until 7:45PM Saturday evening. Three persons were killed in Davidson county, along with 3 more deceased in Montgomery County. Sumner counties was also hit hard, mainly Hendersonville and Gallatin.
Around 2:00PM Saturday afternoon (12/9/2023) while tornadoes were devastating Madison, north to Hendersonville, Gallatin and to the state line in Clarksville, TN, Rutherford County was getting a mix of light showers along with periods of clouds. Locally temps here were in the mid-60s.
Heavy rains and winds hit Rutherford County as darkness fell Saturday night. There were unconfirmed sightings of "circular movements" in the air, but no reports of anything on the ground. In addition, there were reports of hail in the Rockvale and Eagleville communities.
If you are a victim of the tornado, the Red Cross suggests:
•Do not enter damaged buildings.
•If the building you are in has been damaged, exit with extreme care and stay out. Look around for things that might fall or dangerous debris. Do not use matches or lighters inside. If you smell gas or see spills that could be flammable, leave immediately.
•If you are trapped, try to cover your mouth with a cloth or mask to avoid breathing dust. Try to send a text, bang on a pipe or wall, or use a whistle instead of shouting.
•Watch out for exposed nails and broken glass.
•Stay clear of fallen power lines or broken utility lines.
Montgomery County UPDATE
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirms that three people are deceased, two adults and one child as a result of the tornado.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts Declares State of Emergency with a 9:00PM nightly curfew for Saturday and Sunday evening (Dec. 9-10, 2023).
Red Cross Shelter: Northeast High School located at 3701 Trenton Road in Clarksville is a Red Cross Shelter for anyone who has been displaced or in need of assistance.
At approximately 2:00PM a tornado touched down in Montgomery County's Hand Estates, a neighborhood in the vicinity of Garrettsburg Rd. Law enforcement and emergency personnel responded to the area and confirmed damage to several homes. A preliminary search was conducted to locate residents and ensure safety. Three deaths have been confirmed in the Clarksville area.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s office asks that the community shelter in place and stay off the roadways, because of the potential dangers from downed power lines and debris.
In addition, Ft. Campbell personnel are working a fire on the Ft. Campbell property in the area of Palmyra Rd. and Oakwood Rd.
Davidson County UPDATE
There are also 3 deaths confirmed on Nesbitt Lane in the Madison area of Nashville.

Sumner County UPDATE
The Gallatin Police Department reports that both Hendersonville and Gallatin have experienced significant damage due to the tornado earlier Saturday evening (12/9/2023). At this time, we are working to respond to multiple calls throughout the county and to establish Red Cross shelters in Gallatin and Hendersonville.
It is of paramount importance that citizens stay off of the roads and allow first responders and utility crews to respond. We ask for your continued prayers for all Sumner Countians as well as for our neighbors also affected today. We are responding as well as possible at this time and will all work together to begin the rebuilding process.
The Sumner County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is not aware of any loss of life or life-threatening injuries at this time.

A roof was ripped off a business near Gallatin Pike and Old Shackle Island Road in Hendersonville.
As the tornadoes touched-down in Nashville, over 21-thousand residents were without electricity. That also caused the traffic signals not to work, and several crashes were reported. Power is also "out" in Hendersonville.
