MURFREESBORO, TN - Murfreesboro Police Detectives are actively seeking information to identify a person of interest connected to a recent theft and credit card fraud case that unfolded on November 16, 2023. The case initiated when a man reported to the police that he might be a victim of identity theft after receiving two emails containing receipts for purchases made at Best Buy in Murfreesboro, purchases he adamantly claims not to have made. Further scrutiny of his credit report revealed three unauthorized inquiries for credit cards from Best Buy, Target, and Big Lots. The victim asserts he neither applied for nor authorized the applications for these cards in his name, prompting a thorough investigation by Murfreesboro detectives.
The person of interest was reportedly captured on surveillance exiting a Target store wearing a distinctive green zip-up hoodie with the inscription "1996" just right of his zipper, paired with green sweatpants. Authorities believe that public assistance is crucial in identifying this individual and urge anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Jessica Rice at 629-201-5550 or via email at 0933@murfreesborotn.gov. Hopefully, police will be able to nab someone for these incidents and prevent further cases of identity theft and fraud involving the subject who committed these crimes in the Murfreesboro area.
