Focus On Rutherford County with Mayor Joe Carr:
- Mayor Carr focuses on Tennessee's 113th General Assembly that reconvenes at noon (Central Time) on Jan. 9, 2024. Rutherford County's ability to charge "impact" or "development" fees is up for discussion. The GA did not approve Rutherford County's request last year. As a result, Mayor Carr was forced to approve a major property tax increase to cover the needed expenses of fire, police, ambulance and other services brought about by growth. Rutherford County is Tennessee's fastest growing counties and one of the fastest in the nation.

- A $5.4-million contract was just signed that will start the excavation work on the site of the Rutherford County transfer station. (Note: this is separate from Murfreesboro's transfer station).
- Rutherford County is about to "let a bid" on the construction of the transfer station. It will be located at the end of Landfill Road, behind Middle Point Landfill.
- Final question to County Mayor: "What was the major issue of 2023?"
He replied, "Inheriting the property tax debts"
