RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - A special census is underway in northern Rutherford County, where officials believe their population has grown by several thousand residents since U.S. Census numbers from 2020 were released.

La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole talked to WGNS about the growth they hope to confirm by the end of their current population count... La Vergne's last certified population came in at 38,719 residents. If the new population count hits 43-thousand residents, then the city could receive an additional $729,000 annually through state shared revenue...

The City of La Vergne is actively conducting a Special Census and encourages all residents who haven't yet participated to seize the opportunity by filling out a quick and straightforward form. The census aims to accurately account for the city's current population.

Financial Impact - In 2024, La Vergne will receive $170 annually per person in state-shared tax dollars based on the census count.
