(MURFREESBORO) The Rutherford County Historical Society's MONTHLY MEETING will be at 7:00PM Monday evening, January 15, 2024, in Maney Hall at Oaklands Mansion (900 N. Maney Ave., Murfreesboro). Native author Rick Glaze leads a discussion of his nostalgia-tinged story of Ralph (a dog who fancies himself “in charge of security” for his home) and Murray (a cat convinced that rubbing his tail can cure warts). The two unlikely friends in late 1950s Murfreesboro realize over time that they can "speak" to each other and the other animals in their neighborhood through a sort of whispering telepathy.
The story follows Ralph and Murray's adventures together, their lives with their human families, and the love for their people of this picturesque small town, which informs their choices and decisions as they make their way through the era of Elvis, TV westerns, Tennessee Williams, and RC Cola.
The event is free and open to the public. Copies of the books will be available: paperback $14.95; e-book $4.95.

The Rutherford County Historical Society has been preserving and promoting OUR local history since 1971. Perhaps you are researching your family, your property, or perhaps just plain, old fun facts - the RCHS is an exceptional resource. The RCHS hosts 'Coffee & Conversation' each Saturday morning from 9 AM-noon at the Ransom School House Museum, 717 North Academy Street, Murfreesboro, TN. VERY informal, VERY fun, and VERY informative. Our funding comes from membership dues, grants, a trust fund, and donations. We have no paid staff - we are all volunteers thus every penny of your membership dues or donations goes to preserving and promoting our local history
