"With new snow, it's getting worse," Sgt. Watson stated. "As the day goes on, it's not going to get any better."

Watson's warning comes in response to a recent incident where a vehicle overturned on Cedar Grove Road off U.S. Highway 41 (Manchester Highway). Sheriff's deputies also rushed to the scene of another crash on Central Valley Road off U.S. Highway 231 North (Lebanon Highway). Additionally, dispatchers have been flooded with calls reporting drivers in need of assistance throughout the county.

The locations requiring attention include Interstate 24 near the New Salem Highway exit, Rocky Springs Road in Smyrna, Interstate 840, and Allisona Road near Eagleville. The prevalence of accidents and calls for help underscores the urgent need for motorists to adapt their driving habits to the challenging weather conditions.

Rutherford County is no stranger to unpredictable winter weather, and residents are encouraged to follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure their well-being. Here are some essential tips for driving in snowy and icy conditions:

  1. Reduce Speed: Slow down and drive at a speed appropriate for the road conditions. This allows for better control and reaction time.

  2. Increase Following Distance: Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you to allow for additional stopping space.

  3. Use Winter Tires: Consider using winter tires for better traction on snow and ice-covered roads.

  4. Avoid Sudden Maneuvers: Make gradual turns and avoid sudden braking or acceleration to prevent skidding.

  5. Stay Informed: Monitor weather forecasts and road conditions before heading out. If conditions are severe, consider delaying travel if possible.

Law enforcement and emergency responders are working diligently to address incidents, but the cooperation of drivers is crucial in minimizing the risk of accidents. Exercise patience, stay vigilant, and prioritize safety on the roads during winter weather conditions in Rutherford County.

SUNDAY EVENING CALLS: Several semi-trucks were involved in a crash yesterday evening on Interstate 840 near Couchville Pike when the snow first arrived. Another wreck with multiple vehicles closed Couchville Pike and Weakley Lane Sunday.  In another call, Rutherford County Deputies responded to a call where a truck slid off U.S. Highway 41/70 (John Bragg Highway).
