(UPDATE) Murfreesboro, TN - WGNS has an update on a severe multi-vehicle crash that unfolded on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County early Tuesday morning. The pre-sunrise incident occurred just before 5:45 a.m. near the Joe B. Jackson Parkway interchange, at the 82.4 Mile Marker.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Bianca Benford was headed towards Chattanooga on I-24. Benford's Nissan Altima veered off the interstate, crossing over the median and into the westbound lanes of traffic. The sedan then struck an oncoming Nissan Rogue driven by 50-year-old Joe D. Hale.
About 12-minutes after first responders arrived on the scene, LifeFlight helicopter landed. Around 4-minutes later, Mr. Hale was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville with what were described by another motorist as serious injuries. Preliminary reports from the THP indicate Benford was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt.
