RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - After this year's Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11, 2024, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers in Rutherford County plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. The checkpoint location will be on the outskirts of the Murfreesboro City Limits, near the Roselawn Cemetery on U.S. Highway 41/70, commonly known as the New Nashville Highway. This measure aims to ensure road safety, especially as drivers leave Super Bowl parties and head home.

Troopers will be joined by the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force members from law enforcement agencies throughout the county.

This year, the football battle will be between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The game will be at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Shawn Boyd said people should enjoy the Super Bowl.“We want everyone to be responsible and don’t drive after the Super Bowl if they’ve been drinking alcohol,” Boyd said. “We will look for those who are not responsible to keep those who do drive to be safe.”

Troopers, police officers and sheriff’s deputies will check taverns for drunk drivers from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. before the checkpoint begins. Law enforcement officers will also saturate high crash areas to prevent crashes.
