RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - A sobriety checkpoint is planned for Rutherford County and Tennessee Highway Patrol State Troopers told WGNS NEWS... That checkpoint will be directly after this year's Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers in Rutherford County plan to conduct the sobriety checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. According to the THP, the location will be on the outskirts of the Murfreesboro City Limits, near Roselawn Cemetery on U.S. Highway 41 / 70, commonly known as the New Nashville Highway. This measure, which is near the intersection of Florence Road, is aimed at ensuring road safety, especially as drivers leave Super Bowl parties and head home.
Troopers will be joined by Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force members from law enforcement agencies throughout the county.
This year, the football battle will be between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The game will be at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Locally, Murfreesboro Police, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and State Troopers will check bars and nightclubs for drunk drivers between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., directly before the checkpoint begins. Law enforcement officers will also saturate high crash areas to prevent future crashes this upcoming weekend.
Previously Stated by the THP: Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Shawn Boyd said people should enjoy the Super Bowl.“We want everyone to be responsible and don’t drive after the Super Bowl if they’ve been drinking alcohol,” Boyd said. “We will look for those who are not responsible to keep those who do drive to be safe.”
