Beware of Forecasts Calling for Below Zero and Snow Later in February

You may have been seeing some "forecasts" out there on the interwebs showing a big snow storm and bitter cold mid-to-late February. The map from the Climate Prediction Center is the 8-14 day outlook for temperatures. It shows below average temperatures later this month.

That doesn't necessarily mean temperatures will be below 0 with another 6-8" snow. What that means is chances of temperatures below the average this time of the year is between 60-70%.

Any "forecast" that goes beyond 7 days, calling for bitter cold and snow are highly suspect.

But you should enjoy these almost April like high temperatures while you can. It does look like cooler temperatures are coming later this month.
