In collaboration with Middle Tennessee State University’s Student Government Association and the Student Organizations and Service Office, over 80 students from various departments participated in packaging 15,000 meals as part of the university's annual Big Event community service project. This initiative, designed to provide Blue Raider students with a platform for collective service, focused on assembling nonperishable meal items to support students and families facing food scarcity.

The majority of the meals will be allocated to the MTSU Student Food Pantry, with the remaining portion designated for donation to the Nourish Food Bank. Jackie Victory, the director of Student Organizations and Service, emphasized the importance of such efforts in combating food insecurity.

According to organizers, the initiative comes at a crucial time, as over 10% of Tennessee residents are expected to face food scarcity this year.

The MTSU Student Food Pantry, established in 2012 by MT One Stop and the Student Government Association, plays a vital role in addressing hunger within the campus community. In March 2017, MTSU became a member of the College and University Food Bank Alliance, further enhancing its commitment to combating food insecurity. The pantry is sustained through various means, including food drives, individual and group donations, as well as monetary contributions.
