(SMYRNA, TN) Another candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for the Democratic primary and State House of Representatives 49th district. Luis Mata, a community advocate, immigrant, and proud Tennessean, announces historic candidacy for the Tennessee State House of Representatives in District 49.
His immigrant journey and proven leadership for policy advocacy serves as the foundation for a campaign dedicated to bringing real representation and solutions to all people of La Vergne, Smyrna, and N. Murfreesboro.
Born in Mexico, Luis was raised by a single mother who instilled in him the values of hard work and resilience.
Two decades ago they moved from Mexico to Tennessee for the opportunity of a better life and brought those values with them. His mother worked tirelessly to create a life for herself and their family.
Luis has carried these principles into his commitment to community advocacy. He has spent his life as a community advocate and advocate, spending the last decade fighting for a future where all Tennesseeans can belong and thrive.
Most recently, Luis held the role of Policy Coordinator for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition whose mission is to build power, amplify immigrant voices, & organize communities to advocate for their rights. Luis is running for TN State House of Representatives because this moment demands leaders who will fight for our communities, our freedoms, and our future. Luis is set to make history as Tennessee's youngest, and first-ever Latino state legislator where he is eager to be a bold voice of fairness for Tennesseans in District 49 and all across the state.

Elections for the Tennessee House of Representatives will take place in 2024. The general election is on November 5, 2024. A primary is August 1, 2024. The filing deadline is April 4, 2024.
