(MURFREESBORO) Special programs at all Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) branches will be presented on the day of the eclipse. The eclipse will be at lunchtime on Monday, April 8, 2024. It begins at12:45PM, peaks around 2:00PM and ends at 3:30PM (all Central times).
RCLS Library Assistant Taylor Davis said, "You are encouraged to be at the Rutherford County Public Library branch nearest them by 12:30PM.
Information being covered includes:
- definition/science behind eclipse
- diff. between lunar & solar, rarity of event
- natural phenomena & changes to expect during eclipse
- dos & don’ts of eclipse safety
- Brief overview of RCLS branch event times
- In-depth details of TEC eclipse event
- Since the TEC Center is the STEAM branch, this is kind of our whole dig and it’s going to be a party!
- New Bookmobile will be at TEC for the eclipse
- Storytime and music w/ the awesome Bookmobile speakers
- DIY eclipse t-shirts (BYOT), eclipse art, cool makerspace swag & souvenirs
- TEC has a non-traditional STEAM library, makerspace (3D printer, GlowForge laser cutter, Cricut, etc.), seed library, gaming/arcade consoles, computer & tech classes/help, conference & study rooms
- STEAM storytimes and "kits for kids", upcoming tween/teen programming & more--it's all free to the public with an RCLS library card!
Computer Classes Continue
RCLS Technology Director Trey Gwinn said the TEC Center (Technology Engagement Center) at 306 Minerva, also offer 3-D printing, virtual reality sessions, recording studios and more.
Free computer classes continue at the TEC Center on Mondays and Tuesdays at the TEC Center.
Gwinn noted that each library branch has staff who can help you with smart phone issues.
