RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - As the temperature soars in Rutherford County, residents are urged to be cautious of the dangerously high heat index readings, expected to surpass the 100-degree mark. This intense heat poses significant risks, especially to the elderly, handicapped, housebound individuals, and those on fixed incomes. Community members are encouraged to check on these vulnerable populations frequently to ensure their safety and well-being during this extreme weather.

Dwight Ogleton is once again stepping up to help those in need through his program, Cool Aid. Established over 20 years ago, Cool Aid provides fans and air conditioners to individuals who cannot afford them, helping them stay cool during the scorching summer months. Ogleton, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary means to combat the heat. Ogleton said...

"If you know an elderly person living alone, check on them daily to make certain everything is OK," Ogleton advised. He emphasized the importance of even a simple fan, stating that the movement of air can be the difference between suffering from heat-related illnesses and staying safe.

The Cool Aid program is currently experiencing a high demand, and Ogleton is also in need of additional fans and window air conditioning units to distribute to those in need.
