Murfreesboro, TN – The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department hit another winner into orbit with the new Skate Park that opened this past Friday. It’s located where the Rotary pavilion once sat in the Old fort Park, which is off of Old Fort Parkway.

It’s an understatement to say that within just a few days of a soft opening, the Skate Park is instantly attracting a widely diverse age group. Parks and Rec has again “hit this one out of the park!” The skate park is open daily from daylight to dusk and features a street-scape style concrete park with a pump track. Pump tracks are designed for us by those who ride bikes (BMX and freestyle), skateboarders and scooters.

The Skate Park is receiving a thunderous thumbs-UP approval by local residents.  The City contracted with design firm Griggs and Maloney, Inc. along with Newline Skate Parks for design services for the Skate Park and Pump Track in September of 2022.

In early 2023, Murfreesboro Parks conducted public meetings to discuss design options with the BMX and skateboarding community. Public input created a mental design, and Griggs and Maloney along with Newline turned the dream into reality. According to past Murfreesboro City Council minutes, the project cost $888,449 and aims to provide a long-requested amenity for the local skating community.

The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department certainly lives-up to its mission statement: “To provide vibrant public spaces and inclusive programs, delivered with visionary leadership and caring staff that engage the individual and strengthen the quality of life of our community.”
