Above (L to R): Courthouse / Historic Tree

Murfreesboro, TN - Several months ago, WGNS had an exclusive first that one of the four historic sycamore trees at the Rutherford County Courthouse was in bad shape. County Mayor Joe Carr brought-in arborists to try and save the tree. There was a short-term plan to extend it's life a little, but sad news was heard this week...

This week, we also learned that the Election Commission, Building Codes and other county offices that are currently in the Goldstein's Build on the south side of the square, will be moved to the Linebaugh Library. In turn, the library will be placed in two or possibly three approximately 15,000 square foot vacant buildings that are in neighborhoods.

The Goldstein building will enable an expansion of the county museum.  That will be in the expanded museum in the old Goldstein structure. Again, the current museum in the courthouse will remain.

As far as the old sycamore is concerned, only in a time of high technology could the final step be carried out... That was Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr. WGNS will be watching the progress on these projects, and will keep you informed.
