Several government, law enforcement and emergency management agencies — will conduct a large-scale safety exercise at Siegel High School on Monday. It is an "active shooter on campus" drill for emergency responders.

This safety exercise will not involve students, because the schools have not yet opened for the fall xemester. However, Monday's exercise will offer crucial training event both emergency responders as well as all school employees. The exercise will involve personnel from all county schools.

The public is warned not to be alarmed if you see extra emergency vehicles, helicopters, armoured SWAT vehicles, and the media in the area. Again, it is an active-shooter drill.

As far as school opening day, the first half-day for Rutherford County schools is the coming Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2024). That will be a two-hour day. The next date, Thursday, is the first full-day. The two systems are to be commended, as both City and County schools will open on the identical schedule.
