Walter Hill, TN - Walter Hill Elementary School at  6309 Lebanon Pike in Murfreesboro held its 100th Anniversary celebration on Saturday (8/10/2024). Principal Laura Heath said the event generated much excitement from the community.

After Sullivan, we spoke with former principal Butch Campbell. How many years did you serve in that position? 

When asked what makes Walter Hill special, current Principal Heath said it’s a combination of the community, the families, students, and staff and the culture they’ve all created.  

She noted, “Walter Hill places high value on respect, responsibility, and academic integrity. We tell our students each day that they are important, we believe in them, and they can do hard things.”  WGNS then spoke with some former students...

Thanks to a $120,000 grant from Republic Services, the Miss Katie Woodie Foundation was able to construct an outdoor STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) classroom at the school. The foundation is named for Kathleen "Katie" Woodie, a Walter Hill teacher who died in 2021.

Republic Services owns Middle Point Landfill, located near the school.

After the general assembly, visitors went in every direction. Three area in particular seemed to capture the attention. The top attraction was obviously framed class pictures that lined the hallways. Suddenly SRO crowds there as people pointed to pictures of themselves and friends, laughed and reminisced.
