Smyrna Home Destroyed In Sunday Afternoon Explosion

Smyrna, TN - Around 4:30PM Sunday (8/11/2024) afternoon a home exploded off the Old Nashville Highway, near St. Michael's Lane in Smyrna. Heather Kent, the Public Information Officer for Smyrna, told WGNS News that two people were in the home when the fire and explosion occurred. One of the two individuals was taken to the emergency room at StoneCrest Medical Center. Scroll down for more photos.

A neighbor told WGNS that a husband and wife lived in the house and the male received serious burn injuries from what is believed to have started as a water heater explosion. However, the official cause of the explosion that started the blaze remains under investigation.

The neighborhood was ‘rocked’ on Sunday by what was described as an ‘inferno that quickly spread and destroyed the entire structure.’ At the home, which was engulfed in flames, nearby neighbors rushed in to help within seconds of the explosion while others phoned 9-1-1.
