RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force will be on high alert for impaired drivers during Labor Day weekend. As part of their enforcement efforts, officers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, August 30, from 10 p.m. to midnight on Rutherford Boulevard in Murfreesboro.

The checkpoint marks the beginning of a weekend-long initiative to prevent alcohol- and drug-related driving incidents. According to THP Sgt. Shawn Boyd, the goal is to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road during the busy holiday period.

“We want everyone to be safe during the Labor Day holiday,” said Sgt. Boyd. “We will be out in full force, including the sobriety checkpoint.”

Officers will be checking for signs of impairment due to alcohol or drugs, with the intent of removing dangerous drivers from the road. This initiative is part of a broader effort by local law enforcement to reduce accidents and save lives during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, use designated drivers, or utilize rideshare services to avoid the risk of driving under the influence. The checkpoint and additional patrols are a reminder that law enforcement will be vigilant in keeping the roads safe.
