UPDATE - NASHVILLE, TN - In nearby Nashville on Sunday night, a collision between a motorcyclist and a car on I-40 West claimed the lives of both the motorcyclist and a child who was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle the motorcycle struck.
The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a 2003 Buick sedan, Delmas Wiseman III, was eastbound on I-40 when he lost control of his vehicle and entered into a sideways skid. The sedan crossed over into the westbound lanes of travel where the motorcyclist collided with the car’s rear passenger side door.
The motorcyclist, who is tentatively identified as a 30-year-old White Bluff man, died at the scene. The Medical Examiner will make positive identification and notify his family. A 3-year-old girl who appears to have been sitting in the rear passenger seat of the Buick was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she died. Metro Police say she was not in a child safety seat. There were two other children in the back seat with her, ages 5 and 6. They were also taken to Vanderbilt where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. There was only one booster seat in the car.
Wiseman, 45, was also injured but refused treatment. There was no evidence of impairment at the scene.
