RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – The Riverdale High School girls’ soccer coach, who was placed on unpaid suspension due to a criminal case involving sexual offenses against a minor, is scheduled to appear in a Rutherford County Courtroom for a preliminary hearing next week.
One month after students for last years class of 2024 received their diploma, a criminal case naming Nathan Sweet was filed in the Rutherford County Courts. Criminal warrants were then issued for the 35-year-old on June 26th of this year, which resulted in the arrest of Sweet on July 2. The subject was charged with two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor. Six days after the suspect was arrested, he was named in a divorce proceeding that is also in the Rutherford County Courts.
A criminal hearing that was scheduled for August 4 was granted a continuance, and the new date for the preliminary hearing is Wednesday, September 4, 2024, before Judge Lisa Eischeid.
While documents surrounding the case are sealed, the date when the criminal actions occurred, leading to the charges, is disclosed as June 25th of this year.
According to Rutherford County Schools, the Murfreesboro resident was hired 10 years ago, in February 2014. During that time, he has not had any disciplinary infractions recorded in his personnel file.
