As we honor Labor Day, a time to celebrate the hard work and contributions of our community, recent projections from the UTK Boyd Center reveal our county’s population will reach 379,628 by year’s end, a 5.3% increase since 2022. This rapid growth underscores the dedication of our workforce but also highlights the challenges faced by local government agencies. While some departments expand unfettered, others struggle to keep pace, leading to frustrations over perceived stagnation in infrastructure improvements.

There is a need for balance and efficiency in government to ensure that every resident benefits from the fruits of their labor. "On this Labor Day, as we reflect on the progress we’ve made, let’s also commit to working together to address the challenges that come with growth. Our workforce is the backbone of this county, and they deserve a government that is as dedicated and dynamic as they are," said Mitchell.
