MURFREESBORO, TN - Roots Rendezvous, presented by Uncle Dave Macon Days, will take place at Hop Springs in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on September 6 and 7, 2024. Longtime organizer Gloria Christy told WGNS… The music begins at 4:30 pm (Sept. 6) with Stones River Bluegrass and Caleb Christopher Edwards. Later, the evening will come to a close with the lively talent of the Dewdrop Jamboree.
On Saturday, September 7 from 11 am to 1 pm, the special feature will be ‘Boro International, including Tony Hartman, Amber Herra, Decy Ramona, and Frank Bailey and Friends on the outside stage. On the inside stage, starting at 1 pm and continuing until 9 pm, are the Noelle Goodin Band, Delyn Christian Trio, Cripple Creek Cloggers with the Slim Chance Band, Glade City Rounders, Jake Leg Stompers, and ending the evening with an old-fashioned country dance with Rockin’ Country.
Nestled under the restful vistas at Hop Springs, these concerts promise to surge with energy and excitement, blending genres and cultures. Featuring the theme “From Harvest to Hoedown,” the 2024 Roots Rendezvous at Hop Springs will highlight the music and dance legacy of Middle Tennessee.
For the first time in 57 years, under the direction of founder Steve Cates, the Cripple Creek Cloggers will be performing in the Kittrell community since their organizational days as the Kittrell and Rutherford County Square Dancers in 1967.
An Uncle Dave Macon Days favorite, The Slim Chance Band, will accompany the dancers on Saturday, September 7 at 3:00 pm. Hot Springs is a stone’s throw away from where the hoedown music originated and performed. All this will be celebrated near where roots music began in Rutherford County, Tennessee on the front porches, in the parlors, and at the barn raisings of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Roots Rendezvous at Hop Springs is where you’ll have the opportunity to witness, interact, and collect the uniquely creative renderings of many fine craft and visual artists. Organizers are excited to introduce elements of cultural inclusion from our friends at ‘Boro International, the talent of MTSU Art, the students of the MTSU Department of Art and Design, and the work of Murfreesboro favorites associated with the Stones River Crafts Association’s ‘Boro Art Crawl.

MORE DETAILS – The countdown is clicking away minutes as we near the gate opening for an exciting new music fest that runs this coming Friday night and all day and night Saturday (Sept. 6-7, 2024) at Hop Springs 6790 John Bragg Highway). It’s “Roots Rendezvous presented by Uncle Dave Macon Days at Hop Springs”.
There’s a unique ticket price this year. It’s strictly a $10 per vehicle parking fee, and everyone in it are admitted at no extra charge. How ‘bout that?
Gloria Christy said, “This coming weekend’s event is a product of more than 4-decades of creative events. The idea began on July, 8, 1978 with Uncle Dave Macon Days on the Murfreesboro Square. Then it expanded to Cannonsburgh, spread to Shelbyville, and now Hop Springs.”
Ironically, some feel it has gone “full circle”, starting within a few thousand feet of Uncle Dave’s home and across from where he is buried.
Christy noted, “We’re inviting all shade-tree musicians to bring their instruments and join a group to jam”.
She expanded, “That was one of the real experiences of earlier Uncle Dave Macon Day activities. As you walked across the village, the music of one group playing under the shade of a tree would fade and the next band’s sounds would fade-in as you walked closer.”
Any true Uncle Dave aficionado knows how he couldn’t stand motorized vehicles. Those gal-darn things were out to strip him of his livelihood. You see, Uncle Dave put food on the table by operating a mule-drawn delivery between Murfreesboro and Woodbury.
That’s what drew the event to Shelbyville last year, where mules were added. This year the mules will be back at Roots Rendezvous presented by Uncle Dave Macon Days at Hop Springs.

Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024: 3:00PM Festival Highlight of the Cripple Creek Cloggers with the Slim Chance Band (celebrating 57-years of sharing local Appalachian style clogging with the world). In fact, this event will be historic! For the first time in 57-years under the direction of founder Steve Cates, the Cripple Creek Cloggers will be performing in the Kittrell community where they were created in 1967.
Other favorites include the by the Glade City Rounders (4:30-5:30 pm) and The Jake Leg Stompers (5:30-7:00 pm).
In addition to the great music, there will also be food trucks along with the works of artist craftsmen throughout the area, another part of the rich heritage. In addition to the local artists, there will be folks from the 'BORO Art Crawl and 'Boro International.
In addition, the 46th Annual Roots Rendezvous presented by Uncle Dave Macon Days is reclaiming those lost days of agrarian life with mule wagon rides from Doug and Ashely Smith with American Mule and Bluegrass Festival. (September 26-28, in Shelbyville, Tn).
Plus, there will be a farm animal petting zoo. Michelina Jordan, the owner of Mini Creek Farms, an animal assisted therapy program will be at this weekend’s event from Lascassas.
