Murfreesboro, TN - On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its 13th annual "Wine Around the Square" event.
The wine and spirits tasting fundraiser will take place in Murfreesboro’s historic Downtown Square. Proceeds from this event will be used to support the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation’s Power of Pink Fund.
“The generosity shown through ‘Wine Around the Square’ plays a critical role in our ability to offer life-saving services to women throughout Rutherford and surrounding counties that our hospital serves,” said Gina DeJean, Director of the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation. “It’s inspiring to see how our community unites for this event, showing their dedication to our cause and helping us continue our important work.”
The Power of Pink Fund has provided over 25,000 mammograms in Rutherford County and is dedicated to educating and assisting uninsured and underinsured women within our community. The Power of Pink Fund also supports two Mobile Mammography Coaches that serve 26 counties in Middle Tennessee as well as the Cancer Wellness Program at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford.
This year’s event will be honoring Dr. Nick and Adrienne Tarola. Dr. Tarola came to Murfreesboro in 2011 as a specialist in reconstruction surgery for breast cancer survivors. His wife, Adrienne, is a local philanthropist and owner of Nashboro Chic, a fashion clothing store for women. Mrs. Tarola is a passionate advocate for breast cancer and reconstruction awareness and has been a pivotal fundraiser for The Power of Pink Fund.
“We started Ballroom Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) the year Dancing with the Stars was really taking off,” Adrienne said. “Originally, I had ten contestants, five women and five men from the community, and then we made it bigger to get more people involved.”
Ballroom BRA would go on to raise more than $150,000 between 2014 and 2019, with most of the proceeds going to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford’s Foundation’s Power of Pink Fund locally.
The annual "Wine Around the Square" is the Power of Pink Fund’s largest fundraising event. The event kicks off with a VIP party at 4:30 p.m. p.m. with the main event starting at 6:00 p.m. Stones River Total Beverages provides a wide variety of wines and spirits for sampling throughout the evening. Included in the main event ticket, guests will receive dinner provided by The Alley On Main and Clay Pit.
