UPDATE: La Vergne Cruise-In Cancelled Due to Severe Weather Threat

La Vergne, Tenn. - The La Vergne Cruise-In event on Friday, September 13 has been cancelled due to threats of heavy rains and flooding following the Francine stormfront. 

The Cruise-In was scheduled for Friday evening, but due to weather conditions the City of La Vergne has decided to cancel the event out of an abundance of caution. As of Thursday, the La Vergne Fall Festival and parade are still expected to go on, however, staff members are closely monitoring the weather and ground saturation levels. The Parks Department will update the La Vergne Parks and Rec Facebook page as well as the Parks Information Line (615-287-7979) in the event the Fall Festival needs to be cancelled.

In the event of severe weather such as tornadoes or flooding, the La Vergne Fire Rescue Department is encouraging residents to stay weather aware with a NOAA weather radio or watch local, trusted weather sources to stay informed.  

Here are some tips to stay safe during severe weather events: 

  • Keep your radio near you and tuned to WGNS AM 1450, FM 100.5, FM 101.9
  • Keep your cell phone charged and consider using your phone's power saving mode. 
  • Charge or replace batteries in flashlights. 
  • Pack a go-kit for your car and home. A basic supply kit can be found on the Ready.gov website
  • Download a trusted weather source app to your phone or tablet and set it up ahead of severe weather. 
  • TYou can hear live updates on WGNS in regards to the weather situation, check out this website, WGNSradio.com too. 
  • Know where your home’s safe place is in the event of a tornado. This should be an interior room, like a bathroom, with no windows. 
  • Do not go outside in a thunderstorm. 
  • If you’re driving and come across a flooded road, remember to “turn around, don’t drown”!
