Murfreesboro’s New Veterans Park Takes Shape: Playground, Pavilions, Trails, and Pickleball Courts Planned

A new park, which is slowly taking shape on paper, is expected to become a reality and possibly open for visitors by late 2025. Once the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department finalize the design and layout of the future park on Veterans Parkway, contractors will be able to submit bids for the construction project… That was Parks Director Nate Williams who told WGNS that this will be the first city-operated park in the Blackman area.

One of the things that the parks department is planning, is a space for a large playground… Williams told us that eight pickleball courts will be built next to the playground. Also on the drawing board… And nature lovers will enjoy about 3-miles of hiking trails that are currently being planned for Veterans Park.

There is one thing you won’t see at the future park on Veterans Parkway: Ball fields… The city does not plan to build any baseball or softball fields at the future park and is instead looking for additional land to develop more spaces for sports activities.

Discussions continue around the possibility of the park sharing several acres with the City School System for a future school, as well as with the Murfreesboro Police Department, which may develop a police precinct on a portion of the property.

The land for the new park was previously owned by Middle Tennessee Electric. In 2022, the electric provider completed a land swap with the City of Murfreesboro, exchanging land at the I-840/Veterans Parkway interchange, which was owned by the city, for land owned by MTE on Veterans Parkway at Blackman Road.
