Murfreesboro, TN - The City of Murfreesboro, one of the fastest growing municipalities in the USA, is conducting a Special Census to secure its full allocation of State-shared revenue, based on population. Complete the census on-line, right now--go to www.Murfreesborocensus.com. 

Murfreesboro's current population is 152,769 based on the federal census in 2020.

Tax dollars pay to run our fire and police departments, as well as covering the investment in public education. Since the State of Tennessee share $175 of tax revenue per local resident, it is important to be able to prove an increase in population.

Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland said, “We want all residents to understand the importance of civic responsibility in completing the Special Census and the benefits to the community in which we live, work, and play. The 2025 Special Census is easy, safe, and useful. The information shared remains confidential and the funding tied to our count is critical for providing the necessary level of services.”

Residents can participate in the Special Census now by completing the online form available on the City’s secure website at www.Murfreesborocensus.com or by completing the form mailed to your home address.  For information or questions, please email census@murfreesborotn.gov or call 615-893-5210.

Residents will receive a census packet for entering the information electronically. A simple pre-paid postage card will also be included in the packet for residents that would rather mail the information form to the City of Murfreesboro. The only information needed is the address and first and last names of all people living in the household.

“If one assumes that each household averages 2.3 people, we could conclude that we will have added at least 20,000 new residents since the 2020 federal census,” said Assistant City Manager Sam Huddleston. “Not knowing exactly what the number will be, let’s say the grand total is roughly 170,000 people living in Murfreesboro from the 2025 Special Census, that number amounts to an additional $3.7 million in State shared revenue per year.”

Once the count is complete and audited, the City will submit its results to the State for adoption as the certified population during the 2025 budget process.
