San Francisco, CA - Former Blue Raider football alumni Charvarius Ward is mourning the loss of his one-year-old daughter, Amani. The San Francisco 49ers defensive back announced that Amani passed away on Monday, October 28, 2025.
MTSU Head Football Coach Derek Mason expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Charvarius and his family during this incredibly difficult time. From the Blue Raider football family and the MTSU faithful, we love you and God bless.”
The university also released a statement: “The Blue Raider Nation is saddened to learn of the passing of Amani Joy. Charvarius, your Blue Raider family is praying for you and your family during this time.”
Amani was born with very low birthweight (VLBW), weighing less than 3.5 pounds. The principal causes of VLBW are preterm birth and failure to grow in the uterus, which can lead to heart issues. Last year, Amani underwent open-heart surgery.
Our hearts go out to Charvarius Ward and his family during this time of profound loss.
