Rutherford County, TN – In response to rising traffic crashes, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) has announced a sobriety checkpoint to be held on Nov. 22 on U.S. Highway 231, also known as the Shelbyville Highway. The checkpoint, aimed at reducing holiday traffic accidents, will be stationed near Christiana Elementary School and will operate from 10 p.m. to midnight, according to THP Lieutenant Shawn Boyd.

"This is a high crash corridor," Boyd noted, highlighting the section of Shelbyville Highway where the checkpoint will be set up. "This is also the start of the holiday season," he added, underscoring the importance of raising awareness as roadways become busier. The checkpoint is part of a broader initiative to remind drivers to reduce speed, stay alert, and avoid driving under the influence during the busy holiday period.

The Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force, alongside THP officers, will be joining the checkpoint operation. The collaboration aims to reinforce a visible police presence on the roads, helping to remind residents and visitors alike about the dangers of impaired driving and the critical need for cautious, responsible driving.

As the holiday season brings more drivers onto the roads, authorities hope the checkpoint will not only deter impaired driving but also promote safer travel across Rutherford County.
