MURFREESBORO, TN - Rutherford County Schools is requesting parents’ cooperation in addressing concerns about smartphones left on school buses. According to a statement issued to parents of RCS bus riders, there have been isolated incidents where parents used smartphone tracking features to locate missing devices, leading them to bus drivers' private residences.
The school district emphasized that while such cases are not widespread, these actions have raised concerns among bus owners about privacy and safety.
RCS is asking parents to refrain from tracking devices to drivers’ homes. Instead, they encourage families to notify the school if a smartphone is left on a bus. The school will coordinate with bus drivers to recover the phone in a timely manner.
The district expressed its gratitude to parents for their attention to the matter and aims to resolve such situations while respecting the boundaries of all parties involved.
