MURFREESBORO, TN – The Main Street Murfreesboro Celebrate Christmas event promises an evening brimming with holiday cheer on Friday, December 6th. Between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the historic Public Square will transform into a winter wonderland centered around the Rutherford County Courthouse.
Sarah Callender, Executive Director of Main Street Murfreesboro told WGNS News some of what to expect...
Kicking off at 5:00 PM, children can enjoy free crafts and games. Activities include cookie decorating, face painting, creating reindeer food, scavenger hunts, and, of course, hot cocoa to warm the festive spirit.
Starting at 6:00 PM, local schools and organizations will be spreading holiday cheer through song and dance in front of the courthouse. The Center for the Arts’ will head to the stage to perform a special production of White Christmas, which will be combined with a mix of City and County school choirs. Interactive moments that involve community caroling will be like stepping back into time as the audience participates throughout the evening.
Excitement builds as “Elf-Dar,” a specially designed and high-tech radar system that tracks the movement of elves across the night sky, provides updates on Santa’s progress. Around 6:45 PM, the man in red is expected to touch-down at the corner of East Main and North Church Streets. Santa will arrive just in time to light the Christmas tree, as he is accompanied by the singing of Silent Night. Families can also visit Santa inside the courthouse for free photos starting at 7:00 PM, with additional opportunities on the next three Saturdays.
Beyond the stage, choirs will serenade shoppers and diners around the square, while Santa interacts with kids throughout the evening. Children who are too timid to shake hands with the jolly ole' fella, can check out his reindeer that will be hanging out around the square.
Visitors can turn the excitement up a notch with a $20 horse-and-buggy ride through historic downtown or cozy up with blankets for a free outdoor screening of the movie The Christmas Carol, starring Jim Carrey.
This community-centered event is free, family-friendly, and filled with seasonal magic. Don’t miss your chance to kick off the holidays in style at the heart of Murfreesboro on Friday, December 6, 2024, starting at 5 PM.
