Fatal Auto Collision on I-840 Claims One Life in Rutherford County

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - An auto collision occurred on I-840 at the West Jefferson Pike exit Thursday morning, resulting in one fatality and one injury. The tragic incident unfolded shortly before 6:30 AM.

Initial data from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reveals that 20-year-old Keson D. Robinson was merging onto the westbound lanes from the interchange when, for reasons that remain unclear, he crossed through the median. Once on the opposing side of the interstate and confronted by oncoming vehicles, Robinson’s Hyundai collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The force of the crash ejected Robinson from his car. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

THP officers reported that the pickup driver, 49-year-old Vaughn L. Hill Jr., was secured with a seatbelt but sustained injuries in the accident. Following the collision, both vehicles came to a halt on the eastbound side of the interstate.

Traffic on I-840 was significantly impacted for several hours as THP conducted their investigation into the incident, which occurred just a day after Christmas. Currently, no charges are expected and the investigation into what caused the deadly crash remain ongoing.
