Middle TN - The U.S. Centers for Disease and Prevention has released its latest flu report, with Tennessee marked as "Very" in terms flu level. According the Tennessee of Health, counties with the most cases Shelby Davidson, and Sullivan. Cases, for the most part, are not that high in Rutherford County other parts the Middle area.

The Tennessee Influenza Weekly Report that both illnesses positive lab tests are up the previous week. The current week shows an increase from 5.8% to 8.2% in terms of illnesses and an increase from 6.1% to 11.2% in terms of positive lab tests.

Medical professionals are urging the public to get their flu shots as soon as possible especially as holiday continue through the end of the yearThe CDC lists Tennessee among a few states (Oregon, California, Alabama and others) in the high activity level for one of the last weeks the year (2024-25 Influenza Season Week 51 ending Dec 212024).

 

Some people are at higher risk of developing serious complications the flu. If you are at higher risk, flu vaccination is especially important. When you get vaccinated, you reduce your risk of sick with the flu and possibly being hospitalized or from the flu. The recommends prompt flu treatment for people at higher risk of serious complications who have flu infection or suspected flu infection.

People at increased risk include:

- Adults65 years and older

- Children younger 2 years old

- People with asthma

- People with lung disease (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD] and cystic fibrosis- People with neurologic and neuroal

- People with blood disorders (such as sickle cell disease)

- People with endocrine disorderssuch as diabetes mellitus)

- People with heart diseasesuch as congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease)
