SWAT Team Standoff in Smyrna Ends After Nearly 7 Hours

SMYRNA, TN – A nearly seven-hour standoff between a male suspect and SWAT team members in a Smyrna neighborhood ended Thursday afternoon after gunshots were reported earlier in the day.

The scene was centered on Avery Park Drive, where law enforcement locked down the area. This following a report of shots fired around 9:30am. The male suspect barricaded himself inside a home there, which is just off Old Nashville Highway near the VFW.

Just before 4:30pm, the suspect surrendered to authorities. Smyrna Police SWAT was joined by Murfreesboro Police and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department SWAT units, so a heavy police presence was on the scene.
