RUTHERFORD COUNTY,  TN, - The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, Jan. 24, along Rutherford Boulevard between Broad Street and Church Street. The operation is scheduled from 10 p.m. to midnight and aims to identify impaired drivers and promote road safety in Rutherford County.

THP Lt. Shawn Boyd stated that troopers, along with the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force, will monitor drivers for signs of impairment from alcohol or drugs. This effort is part of the ongoing campaign to reduce impaired driving on county roadways.

“This is continued enforcement of impaired drivers we want to get off the roadways in Rutherford County,” Boyd emphasized.

The urgency of the initiative stems from a troubling statistic: 47 people lost their lives in traffic accidents across Rutherford County in 2024. With the county’s population now ranking as the fourth largest in Tennessee, traffic safety remains a top priority for local and state authorities.

In addition to checking for impairment, officers will address other safety concerns, such as distracted driving, failure to wear seat belts, and other traffic violations. Law enforcement hopes the checkpoint will not only deter reckless behavior but also serve as a reminder for drivers to prioritize safety behind the wheel.

Motorists traveling in the area during the checkpoint hours are advised to plan accordingly and ensure they comply with traffic laws.
